Niall on Sasori get some photos from the last Thursday's DBSC race. Wind conditions resulted in a bit of chaos at the Asgard mark as can be seen in the video above. Additionally, photos can be viewed in the Gallery section. Remember if you have photos from any event, past, present or future, email them to

Hello to all C3 members,
Some of you will know me from Cacciatore, and I’d like to firstly introduce myself as the incoming Class Captain for the 2009 season. I hope it’ll be a successful, fun and enjoyable one - with better weather than we’ve had of late!
We plan to hold our Pre-Season meeting in the NYC on Tuesday 8th April, and details of all the season’s events and plans will be outlined at that meeting, so can I please encourage as many of you and your crew as possible to attend. We’ll also pass on any relevant information which comes out of the DBSC Pre-Season meeting. Confirmation of the time and date will be sent to you again nearer the date. Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you all on 8th April in the National Yacht Club for the pre-season meeting. Mairéad Ní Cheallacháin Class Captain |

CRUISERS 3 AGM
NATIONAL YACHT CLUB
20TH JANUARY 2009
1. Minutes of AGM 2008
Taken as read
2. Election of officers
Mairéad Ní Cheallacháin - Class Captain (proposed, David Bolger, seconded Declan Curtin)
Sybil McCormack (proposed David Bolger, seconded Anne O’Callaghan)
Kevin Glynn (proposed David Bolger, seconded Michael Walsh)
Ken Lawless (proposed David Bolger, seconded Hugh Kelly)
It was suggested that we approach Vespucci (as the only boat in the RStGYC) for a committee member, in order that we have representation from each club.
Election of committee members to specific roles will be undertaken by the committee. Vice captain to be decided by the committee.
3. Finance
The C3 account is €1202.48 in credit. Accounts for 2008 season were read through by David Bolger.
4. Any Other Business
David proposed that the class think about events or talks we might like to have, to be decided at the pre-season meeting. A number of speakers were suggested - Bill O‘Hara, Maurice O’Connell, Des McWilliams.
A weekend match racing in J80s or 1720s was suggested as a possibility. Declan Curtin described a weekend training in which he participated using the ISA’s J80s. The RIYC organised a weekend match racing in 1720’s. Both were described as very successful. The ISA have arranged to lease their J80s to different clubs in the country for 2 months at a time. C3 could investigate which clubs have these boats, and the possibility of organising such an event for the class. Cost would depend on the level of interest. Ken Lawless suggested that the RIYC could run such an event for C3 with their 1720s.
David Bolger brought up the subject of crowded start lines. He had discussed this on a number of occasions with members of DBSC committee. DBSC are not going to change the C3 class this year, however it remains a subject under review.
Courses not being complex enough was discussed. Often a windward leg, a straight run (possibly no gybe) and home. No learning opportunities. C3 should try to look at possible course changes to assist DBSC with their course setting.
C3 would benefit from an earlier start, so that we could be given longer courses.
Race management courses are run by DBSC, C3 should encourage participation so that we can contribute to assisting DBSC.
Sending C3 on the same course as larger, faster boats on evenings when the wind is obviously falling is a problem.
Michael Walsh pointed out that any implied criticism of DBSC and their Race Officers was possibly unfair. The Hut RO is restricted in his choice of courses by the selection made by MacLir RO. David Bolger again suggested that C3 may have ideas to run better courses, and should offer input and constructive criticism.
Declan Curtin said that there is no culture of protesting in C3, and suggested an “informal protest night” during the season where incidents could be discussed, possibly with a judge/referee in attendance. A talk was suggested on the procedures of lodging a protests, there are big procedural pitfalls involved.
On the social side, it was agreed that the monthly dinners in the different waterfront clubs were a success, and should be repeated. David had arranged a very interesting schedule of events (family cruise, cruise/race up the Liffey etc) for last season, but unfortunately most were defeated by the weather. We will arrange a similar schedule for this season and hope for better weather. A quiz night was mooted.
The preseason meeting will be arrange for shortly after the DBSC meet with class officers, probably early April. Manning the line will be hopefully arranged on a voluntary basis again. Sybil has details of boats which have done line duty in the last three years. These will be circulated, and volunteers sought from boats that have not done line duty in recent years. If not enough volunteers emerge, the committee will nominate boats.
Class fees were maintained at the same level as 2008 - €30. |

Welcome to the Dun Laoghaire Cruisers 3 website!
Welcome to our new website which we hope will form the core of our communication of our association going forward. Cruisers 3 is the largest and most active class in DBSC and I hope that this website will help and encourage us to consolidate and grow further. As with any communication process, we will only get out of the website what we choose to put in. In that respect, I encourage you to register and participate and to encourage all of your crew to do the same. Please also forward any photos you would like to see added into the gallery, any events to be added, any links to be included etc. Remember, this is our website so you dictate its content, and how we wish to use it.
